A reminder: Android: Netrunner Store Championship this Saturday at 1pm! $7.50 entry and includes a non-alcoholic beverage of your choice. The top 4 will receive a variety of prizes including custom play mats, but even just participating will get you a promo card. If you plan on coming, join the event posted in the comments so we can seat everyone comfortably!

Several of us at the store are big fans of this Living Card Game (LCG). We’ll be practicing this evening at 6:30pm and, of course, teaching it to anyone who wants to learn how to fight ‘dem big evil Corporations of the future. Or maybe you just have a desire to crush some hackers. That works too.

Dungeons & Dragons Encounters will also be going on from 6 until 9pm. The guys have been having a blast with it so far; whether you are new to role-playing or a pen-and-paper veteran, you are liable to have a good time exploring the Sword Coast!

See you soon.

And here’s this weekend’s event:  https://www.facebook.com/events/411546208991733

This afternoon at 1pm we’re celebrating St. Paddy’s Day in true form with a Star Wars X-Wing Store Championship! Because…you know…James Earl Jones was part Irish. Entry is $5, but we’re throwing in a free soda or tea.

Anywhoo…we’ll be carrying on the Irish tradition through our Sunday ‘Learn to Play’ event by teaching the classic cooperative game, Forbidden Island, whilst letting you enjoy a glass of Guinness. Because…you know…Alec Guinness.

Last but not least, we’re moving next Sunday’s Android: Netrunner Store Championship from Sunday to Saturday due to customer requests. If you haven’t played this awesome LCG yet, come by on Wednesday for our bi-weekly Netrunner event. Learn to play, chat a bit, have fun.

And in a similar vein, we’re also moving the following Sunday’s Game of Thrones LCG Store Championship from 3/30 to 3/29.

We finally got around to updating the website.

The pictures on the main page are now all, actually photos of our store … no more stock photos.

The beer list is current, with another update coming Tomorrow or Monday.

ALL links to the Calendar of Events now go to the proper calendar.

Enjoy!

We’re having a little fun with the Magic: The Gathering tonight. Bring a friend to the 6:30pm draft and get a free item from our food menu! Girl Scout cookie platter? No problem. Chips & Salsa? It’s on us. $15 entry (incl. tax) gets you 3 boosters, plus 2 extra after the game is over. Help us get a good turn out and have a great time in the process!

We’d also like to show off our newest featured artist: Erika Rae Heins. She specializes in Tolkien-inspired fantasy art, and you can find her prints on the walls of our store. With artwork for as low as $8, maybe you’ll even find one to take to your own hobbit hole.

And just as a reminder, our Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures Game Championship is this Sunday at 1pm. If you haven’t signed up already, make sure to do so on our event page.

Dungeons & Dragons Encounters is tonight! If you are a veteran goblin slayer or just a newbie looking to try this dungeon delving thing out, come by at 6pm for a three hour pick-up-and-play romp.

In other news, we received the innovative new 4X (eXpand, eXploit, eXterminate, eXplore) Sci-fi game Quantum. It’s been touted as being to Eclipse what Eclipse was to Twilight Imperium. If you have any idea of what I’m talking about, then you probably will be very interested in checking it out! A space opera that plays out with four players in 45 minutes. Heck. Yes.

We also just got in three new beers: Worthy Brewing‘s Easy Day Kolsch, Blue Dog Mead‘s Green Collar Mead, and Paulaner‘s Salvator Doppelbock.

Prepare your taste buds for an imperial beat down!

Every Tuesday evening from 6PM-8PM is beer tasting night at Round the Table, and this week we are moving on from the wimpy, delicate ciders to something BOLD. Something DARK. The Imperial Stout! These suckers clock in at close to 10% ABV and were a beverage of choice by the Russian court of Czarina Catherine the Great. How much more convincing do you need? Did I mention we are taking donations for the Lynnwood Food Bank?

Back to the beer. Believed to have been originally developed in England as an export to the Russian Crown, the strong dark ales quickly took the moniker of “Russian Imperial Stout”. While the name is still around today, throughout the 19th century it had the unfortunate problem of going in and out of style depending on the diplomatic relations between the two countries. If you have ever played Diplomacy (boardgame), you know just how dicey it can be!

Like with our cider tasting, we’ll be sampling out three different American takes on the style– North Coast Brewing Company‘s traditional Old Rasputin, Oskar Blues Brewery‘s viscous Ten Fiddy, and Boulevard Brewing Company‘s wacky Dark Truth Stout. All vaguely similar, and yet each starkly different.

For more information on the history of this type of beer, feel free to check out the link below. Otherwise, we’ll see you tonight.

A big round of thanks to everyone who came out to our Grand Opening this weekend. On Saturday alone, we had over 200 of you visit us and for that we are most grateful. Your patronage, support and well-wishes was wonderful and inspiring to us all.

Now that we’ve recovered from the weekend, we’ve got even more going on! Tonight is the Lynnwood Magic The Gathering meetup (though everyone is invited), as well as EuroGame Learn and Play, both starting around 6:30 pm.

Tuesday we’ve got a beer tasting from 6-8 pm. Wednesday there’s Dungeons and Dragons Encounters and Android: Netrunner at 6:00 pm. Thursday has Star Wars: X-Wing and Warmachine Starting at 6:00 pm.

But the big news is this Friday: We’re doing our usual Theros/Born of the Gods Booster Draft ($15 gets you 3 packs for the draft, +2 participation packs) but we’re also making it a ‘Bring-a-Friend’ Nite. Bring a friend (or meet one here) and get a free menu item (one of ours, not pizza) of your choice. We’ll also be handing out a free foil card to everyone who plays.

It’s been a very long journey, but here we are, open to the public and ready to play some games.

We’ll be doing more to update the website and connect more with you in a few days.  To be honest, we’re a little overwhelmed with just running the new place and getting it operational.

But come on by and check us out.  And watch the calendar on the main page.  We’ve got a lot of fun things planned!

So we spoke about receiving our liquor license. But what’s a drink without a game to be frustrated at?

We at ‘Round the Table plan on having over 100 different ‘open’ boardgames at launch–titles that you can feel free to open up and play with your friends or family when you stop by. Many of these will be recognizable to you boardgame geeks out there, like Dixit, 7 Wonders, and Wings of War.

But there will definitely be some surprises. Our current favorite is ‘The Quiet Year’, a story-driven and rules-lite cooperative game of survival in the apocalypse.

There are easy to learn gems that will shake up your pre-conception of what a genre is; for example, ‘Friedrich’ is a 4-player war game where a team of three attempt to crush a solitary player in 1700s Europe. Instead of being a complicated mess, players are engrossed in a delicate and balanced war of maneuver using only a handful of pieces and strategizing for battles with a hand of ordinary playing cards.

Wicked.

So definitely come and check our library out, preferably with a few friends. And if you don’t know how to play a game and don’t want to plow through a whole rulebook, ask us. We play all of these games, and can give you a quick overview of how to play. Or we’ll have a flat-screen TV hooked up in the main room ready to stream video tutorials from the web for your convenience.

We look forward to seeing you in a few short weeks!
