We’ve got a couple of tournaments coming up that we wanted to share. First, this Saturday at 1pm, we’re having our first Settlers of Catan tournament. Get ready to hoard your bricks and trade away that sheep, the The Settlers of Catan tournament is on its way. The top 5 players will receive prizes including Catan plushies among other goodies! Come celebrate the end of summer the right way at Around the Table! $5 Entry. And second, the Star Wars the Card Game LCG has taken off in a big way, and so we’re going to be hosting a tournament for that every first Friday fo the month at 7pm. This will be a 3 round swiss-style tournament, with all Force Packs and Expansions legal for play. Participants will be required to bring a tournament legal deck and arrive on time. Prizes will consist of Around the Table Gift Certificates for the top three finishers. Awesome!

We’ve had a few new licensed games come in that we’re pretty excited about: Shadowrun: Crossfire has been a huge hit. It’s a co-operative deckbuilding adventure game set in the sci-fi/fantasy Shadowrun universe. Clue: Firefly let’s you play your favorite mystery game mashed together with the Firefly characters and places. River has been betrayed and handed over to the Alliance! Help the Serenity crew discover who is working with the Alliance, what they used to betray River, and where on Serenity the kidnapping took place. Was it Inara with the Med Kit in the Engine Room? Or Mal with the Leather Necklace in the passenger dorm? Solve the mystery and save River! And for you J.R.R. Tolkien fans, we have The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies, but the same folks who brought us War of the Ring. This 2-player game recreates the fierce struggle witnessed by Bilbo Baggins, at the end of his quest for the Lonely Mountain. It contains 126 gorgeously sculpted plastic figures. For you Adventure Time fans, we got in collector packs of the Adventure Time Card Wars game and don’t expect them to last long. And for you Munchkin players, we also have Adventure Time Munchkin! Lastly, we got in the Street Fighter Deck-Building Game. Take on the role of Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Balrog, M. Bison or one of the other well-known characters as you travel to exotic locales seeking new challenges! While you begin armed only with basic combat maneuvers, you will add new, more powerful cards to your deck as you go, with the goal of defeating as many Stage Bosses as you can.

With all of the excitement about Khans of Tarkir, the next set for Magic: The Gathering, and all of the spoilers being released ( http://ift.tt/1kSuijj ), you’d think that if we were going to talk about Magic, we’d be talking about that, wouldn’t you? But no! There’s other excitement in the Magic arena, and we have it! Speed vs. Cunning Duel Decks! These ready-to-play decks showcase cards from across Magic history, including six cards from the new Khans of Tarkir set and four cards with new artwork. Shrieking Hordes Confront Tactical Masters Racing across the blazing steppe, the wave of attackers crests the barren hills. Nothing can stop their reckless advance. What’s Happening? Today: Beer Tasting from 6-8pm; Worker Placement Games with Trent & Beth @ 6:30pm ( we’ll be teaching Robinson Crusoe!); Catanamaniacs @ 7:30pm. Wednesday: Riichi Mahjong 2-6pm; Netrunner League Play @ 5-10pm; D&D Encounters, Tyranny of Dragons, starts @ 6pm and a second table @ 7pm; War Game Wednesday feat. Conflict of Heroes @ 7pm; Settlers of Catan @ 7:30pm. We’ve got two big events that we want to make sure everyone hears about. First, this Saturday we are going to host a Star Trek-themed Day! To celebrate the 48th Anniversary of the television premiere of Star Trek (actually on the 8th, but weekends!) we’re throwing a party. We’ll have Federation Of Beer’s Vulcan Ale, all you can eat Earth Pizza, courtesy of our friends over at Little Caesars of Lynnwood, space-themed games and a free Terrace tournament (a strategy game featured on ST: TNG) and more! We’re also coming up on the 6 month anniversary of our Grand Opening! On the following Saturday, the 13th, we’ll be having a Customer Appreciation event to thank you all for making this place such a fun and welcoming environment. It’s never work for us to be here and we have you to thank for that! We’ll be playing games, having free door prizes and all the games will be 15% off! See you here!

Happy Labor Day! Did you know? We’re open today until 10:00pm! And we’ve got a bunch of things going on: 1st Edition D&D with Ron @ 6pm; Euro Boardgame Learn n’ Play @ 6-10pm; Lynnwood Magic MeetUp: EDH and more! @ 6:30pm. Tuesday: Beer Tasting from 6-8pm; Worker Placement Games with Trent & Beth @ 6:30pm ( we’ll be teaching Robinson Crusoe!); Catanamaniacs @ 7:30pm. Have you all recovered from PAX? We hope you avoided the Pax Pox! We had a busy weekend without you and took in a huge pile of used games. Some classics like Dark Tower (yes, that Dark Tower), Talisman (3rd Ed.), Gladiator and Fortress America. There’s some staples of every family-game collection, like Pente, Scattergories, Hoax, Risk, Snohomish County-opoly and Oh Hell. And there’s a bunch of first-wave European imports from the late 90s, like Modern Art, Montgolfiere, Quo Vadis, Message to the Czar, Space Walk and Buffalo. I suppose I should also mention the wargames too: War: Age of Imperialism, Material World, Worldkiller (by SPI), Third Reich and others! Here’s a few pics. See you soon!

What’s Happening? Aside from PAX – part three. Today: Deckbuilding Games w/ Trent and Beth @ 2:30pm; Story Games @ 6pm; Iron Kingdoms RPG @ 7pm. Monday: 1st Edition D&D with Ron @ 6pm; Boardgame Learn n’ Play @ 6-10pm; Lynnwood Magic MeetUp: EDH and more! @ 6:30pm. You may have heard inside the shop that we are grabbing another cooler specifically for root beer kegs. Well, that should be in next week barring any catastrophes. But what does that mean? Rotating Craft Rootbeer. Between you and I though, Lynnwood’s own Big E Ales makes the best around. So we’ll be keeping them on 75% of the time. An Extra Tap for Craft Beer. We already have a set tap for Ales light, dark, hoppy and belgian–not to mention a dedicated draught cider. Instead of sticking with a style for this last one though, we’ve decided that we would rather define it by geography. We have so many awesome breweries in a 15 mile radius, whether it is Edmonds’ American Brewing Company and Salish Sea Brewing Company, Ballard’s Populuxe Brewing or Everett’s Justice Brewing–not to mention Lynnwood’s aforementioned Big E Ales or Shoreline’s upcoming Charging Hippo Brewing Co.. Local beers for the win! So next time you drop by make sure to ask what’s local. See you soon.
