You guys should know by now that we aren’t *just* a boardgame store. I mean, not only are we undoubtedly in a Golden Age of boardgaming, but also smack-dab in the middle of a craft beer & cider revolution! Craft brewers are literally modern day mad scientists CONSTANTLY creating new brews with scientific precision(and occasionally artistic flare). So it would be a crime to deprive our patrons of experiencing ‘the good stuff’. Yeah, we’re geeks about it, sue us. Better yet, just check out the new stuff we’re getting in by Friday.

On Tap:
Great Divide Brewing Co. Chocolate Oaked Aged Yeti – Imperial Stout – 9.5%
Avery Brewing Maharaja IPA – Imperial India Pale Ale – 10.2%
American Brewing Blonde – Blonde Ale – 4.5%
Odin Brewing SAGA French Saison – 100% French Farmhouse Ale – 6.5%
Julian Ciders Cherry Bomb – Cherry Cider – 7%

Bottles:
Laurelwood Workhorse – India Pale Ale – 7.5%
Uinta Baba Black (It’s Back!) – Black Lager – 4%
Dubhe Black IPA – Imperial Black IPA – 9.2%

Cheers!

What’s Happening?

Today: Beer Tasting from 6-8pm (Dark Beers!); Ticket to Ride @ 7pm.

Wednesday: Riichi Mahjong @ 2pm; D&D Encounters: Dead in Thay @ 6pm; Netrunner League @ 7pm.

Plus, we’ve got a few exciting events coming up that we want to let everyone know about:

Friday night we’ll be doing a Theros Block draft at 7pm as usual, plus we’ll be doing Conspiracy Drafts at 5pm and at 8pm. We’ll also keep doing Conspiracy events all weekend — whenever we have 4+ people interested in doing one, it’ll happen.

In addition to our usual Saturday stuff (Magic Homeroom @ 2pm and Magic Pauper @ 6:30pm) it’s also Pathfinder Mob Day! Stacy will be running Pathfinder all day for all comers — play for an hour or play all day; newcomers to the game or long-time experts are all invited to play.

Father’s Day is this Sunday and we’ve got a special deal for Dad. Bring your kids (or be brought by them) and Dad gets a free Big E Root Beer! Plus we’ll be hosting a Hearthstone Online CCG gathering, the Snohomish County Board Game Meetup and we’ll be playing Ben Robbins’ Kingdom story game.

And next Sunday, the 22nd, is going to be our Old School Roleplaying Game Day, so mark your calendar and watch here for more details about this fun-filled day of gaming!

What’s Happening?

Today: Ron’s 1st Ed AD&D @ 6pm; EuroGame Night @ 6pm (details below); Lynnwood Magic MeetUp @ 6:30pm.

Tomorrow: Beer Tasting from 6-8pm; Ticket to Ride @ 7pm.

We’ve had really good turnout lately for EuroGame Night, and tonight should be no different. Caverna has been suggested for tonight, and since we have some newcomers RSVPed, we’ll probably break out Catan or Ticket to Ride, plus whatever games the usuals bring. It ought to be a fun night!

In other news, we have some games to feature that have come in recently. Some of them are highly anticipated reprints, like the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game and Mice & Mystics.

The Pathfinder Card Game boils down the choices and excitement of night of roleplaying into an hour of card play — no DM required. Likewise, Mice & Mystics takes the classic dungeon-delving boardgame and runs it through the cute-ifying machine — mice must navigate the dangers of the modern world while fighting off cats and evil rats!

We also got in a copy of Pandante — the Kickstarter edition of David Sirlin’s take on Poker … with cute panda. There’s only one of those, so first-come, first-served.

And we have two new takes on Bang! We have Samurai Sword, which transports the game of Bang into Feudal Japan. And we have Bang! The Dice Game, which crosses Bang with Yahtzee to get a more strategic, faster playing game.

All sorts of fun stuff!

What’s happening today? Conspiracy, Conspiracy, Conspiracy!

Today: Magic Homeroom @ 2pm; Pathfinder Society @ 6pm; Magic tournament @ 6:30pm. Conspiracy drafts throughout the day (at 2pm & 7pm and whenever we have 6+ people that want to play!).

Sunday: Shaun’s Pulp Hero @ 1pm (they’re looking for players, see below for a description of the game); Netrunner Draft @ 1pm; Iron Kingdoms RPG @ 7pm.

Conspiracy Madness! This great new Magic set released yesterday and has everyone excited and crazy for it! Thanks to everyone who came out last night for the drafts! It was our best Magic turnout yet!

To continue the madness, we’ll be doing mini-drafts all day, whenever we have 6-8 people ready to play, $15 (tax included with added prizes). We’re also scheduling drafts at 2pm and at 7pm, so if you’re looking for a game, that’s the time to arrive.

In other news, we’ve also got two RPG groups looking for players:

Shaun is running a Hero System, 1920s Pulp game set in Arkham Mass. A famous radio personality has been murdered and it’s up to the player characters to solve the mystery. The game runs every other Sunday from 1pm to 6pm. More info can be found at: http://www.meetup.com/Lynnwood-Edmonds-Games-Geeks-and-Drinks/events/187747672/

Ron is starting up an Old-School 1st Edition AD&D Game on Monday nights, starting here in a few days. Join him for heroic adventures in his home-brewed fantasy campaign. You can find out more here: http://www.meetup.com/Lynnwood-Edmonds-Games-Geeks-and-Drinks/events/186790352/

What’s happening!?

Today: Friday Night Magic – Conspiracy Draft! @ 7pm

Saturday: Magic Homeroom @ 2pm; Pathfinder Society @ 6pm; Magic tournament @ 6:30pm

Holy cow! Sorry about the exasperation there but today is the release of the new Magic: The Gathering set Conspiracy. This 210-card, purely multiplayer focused booster set not only puts a fresh spin on 3 to 4 player free for alls, but adds new card types that play around with whole game concepts like drafting, turn order and much, much more.

If you are a Magic fan, you owe it to yourself to try this out in a draft setting. Tonight we’ll be hosting one at 7pm that has a $15 entry fee and will net you a total of 5 boosters JUST for participating–not to mention prizes for top players. And if there is enough interest, we might even hold an encore draft tomorrow evening…

For more information on what the heck Conspiracy is all about, here is a blurb from the Wizards themselves:  http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtg%2Fdaily%2Ffeature%2Fconspiracymechanics

What’s happening?

Today: Beer Tasting from 6-8pm (What makes a beer thirst-quenching? will be the topic); Scrabble @ 7pm.

Wednesday: Riichi Mahjong @ 2pm; D&D Encounters (Dead in Thay) @ 6pm; Android: Netrunner @ 7pm (we’ll be getting ready for the big draft tournament on Sunday!).

The exciting news today is that we got a bunch of long-awaited restocks today: The Resistance, The Resistance: Avalon, Coup and Splendor.

Spendor we’ve talked about recently, the gem-mining nominee for this year’s Spiel des Jahres.

The others are all great, thinking games for larger groups — Coup goes up to 6 players, the two Resistances are 5-10 player games. They’re all secret role games where players take on characters and the others have to guess who they are or what faction they belong to. They’re quick, fun and require a bit more thought than most party games.

We highly recommend all of them!

Coup was a surprise hit last fall, and has been out of print ever since, so now’s your chance to pick up this great game!

What’s going on?

Today: Lynnwood Magic MeetUp @ 6:30pm; Euro Game Night @ 7pm (Some folks will be arriving at 6pm; Russian Rails, Red Dragon Inn and others are on the agenda)

Tuesday: Beer Tasting from 6-8pm (What makes a beer thirst-quenching? will be the topic); Scrabble @ 7pm.

Our Microscope game last night went really well. We did science fiction this time, and came up with a dark future were global warming shattered modern society and MMORPGs became the dominant social interaction. But eventually, gold-farming autonomous programs became self-aware and took over the world economy. Great fun!

Next Story Games night (June 15th) we will try Kingdom, another game by Ben Robbins. This one is abut communities and asks the question: Do you change the Kingdom or does the Kingdom change you?

Although we don’t have any of it in stock, one of our favorite RPGs is Traveller. One of the first sci-fi games that came out back in the 70s, this classic game of exploration and trade is so well thought out and has such a large and believable back story that it well deserves the title of ‘classic’.

We wanted to mention it here because a group has just announced a Kickstarter to turn this wonderful setting into a television pilot. Spinward Traveller is the name and it follows a ragtag crew of misfits on their journeys through the stars. Give it a look!

What’s Happening?

Today: Magic Homeroom @ 2pm, Pathfinder Society @ 6pm; Magic Pauper Tournament @ 6:30pm.

Sunday: Pinochle @ 12pm; X-Wing Assault on Imdaar Alpha @ 5pm; Story Games (Microscope) @ 6pm; Iron Kingdoms RPG @ 7pm

That’s a lot of Roleplaying Games going on!

Which is appropriate, because we just got in a boatload of RPGs. First, our order of Indie Games from Indie Press Revolution arrived on Wednesday. We got restocks of Dungeon World, Durance and Things We Think About Games.

We also got copies of Torchbearer, Polaris, Call of Cat-thulhu, Burning Wheel, and Reign! Those are some great titles and if you haven’t heard of them and like RPGs, ask us about them, because these games need more attention.

Our friend Gary also brought by a carload of used roleplaying games, and we have those priced and on the shelves. Indie games like Inspectres, Cold City and Legend. A few Savage Worlds books such as Savage Suzerain, 50 Fathoms, Realms of Cthulhu and Interface Zero. He also brought in nearly every book for Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 2nd Edition.

We’ve got Pathfinder Society meeting tonight and we also got in a few new releases for that game: Shifting Sands (the latest Adventure Path), the new Harrow deck and companion book, as well as Occult Mysteries and the Hill Country Flip-Mat.

And after the huge success of Chris’ Iron Kingdoms game, we’ve been able to restock on all of the Iron Kingdoms books as well!

That’s a lot of paper weighing down our poor shelves. Come on down and help us lighten the load!

What’s Going on this Weekend?

Today: Friday Night Magic Booster draft @ 7:00pm

Saturday: Magic Homeroom @ 2pm. Play casual Magic in a friendly setting with other young people. Prizes for 8 or more players. Pathfinder Society @ 6pm; Magic: Pauper Tournament @ 6:30pm.

Sunday: Pinochle @ 12pm; X-Wing Assault on Imdaar Alpha Tournament @ 5pm; Story Games: Microscope @ 6pm; Iron Kingdoms RPG @ 7pm.

Looks like a lot of stuff right? Well despite all of these events, we want to let you know that at any given moment there is a solid amount of open table space at our store! Obviously on week days there is a lot more availability, but even on weekends with events the participants will either be in our private Game Room, or on one or two tables at the shop, which leaves quite a lot left for hanging out or just playing a pick up game of Ticket to Ride.

Don’t want to play Ticket to Ride? Our staff is always happy to teach any of the games we have in our Open Play section, many of which can be taught and played in less than an hour. Current favorites are the cooperative Hanabi, competitive Quantum, and ludicrous Smash Up!

See you soon.

On this Memorial Day, we’d like to express our gratitude and appreciation to all members of the armed services. Our freedom and way of life comes from your spilt blood and sacrifice. Thank you!

Today we’re open our usual hours (11am – 10pm) and offering a 15% game discount to all active or former members of our Armed Forces. Plus, we’ve got the Lynnwood Magic MeetUp @ 6:30pm; Euro Game Night @ 7pm. We’ll be playing Splendor as well as others.

Tuesday: Beer Tasting from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

We just got done watching this great video by the guys over at Shut Up and Sit Down. A wonderfully entertaining look at a megagame — this one the nations of the earth battling an alien invasion. It’s a long one, but lots of fun.
